Senza meta #01 Eva Vermandel
Per farvi avvicinare maggiormente alla mostra Senza meta. Il libro come pensiero fotografico, curata da Elio Grazioli e in programma durante Fotografia Europea 2014, pubblicheremo ogni settimana dei post di approfondimento su alcuni dei libri presenti all’interno dell’esibizione.
Il primo libro che vi proponiamo è Splinter, di Eva Vermandel.

Maggior lentezza e maggior consapevolezza: questa la richiesta allo spettatore di Eva Vermandel, che nel volume Splinter si confronta con il fiume di immagini “usa e getta” che ogni giorno entrano nelle nostre vite con velocità sempre maggiore.
L’artista in questo volume riunisce fotografie “ordinarie”, intime e introverse: ritraggono persone, spesso nelle loro case, raffigurate da sole o con amici o con semplici oggetti personali riposti su mensole e credenze. Nonostante la normalità di queste immagini, in contrasto con la forza travolgente delle immagini “monouso” che vediamo ogni giorno, la fotografa è in grado di catturare l’attenzione dello spettatore, attraverso piccoli dettagli, appunto schegge (splinter), capaci di colpire lo sguardo di chi osserva.

An appeal for slowness and heightened awareness – Eva Vermandel assembles distilled images, calm and sensuous, in Splinter. Her photographs work like the proverbial splinter in the eye of the beholder, embedding themselves in the psyche of the viewer.
In her series Vermandel braces herself against the torrent of highly disposable media images that, seeking our attention, rushes in at us daily and with increasing speed. Her motifs are unspectacular, intimate and withdrawn: people, often in their homes, alone or with friends or children, personal objects on shelves or cupboards. Warm flecks fly about their accented materiality.
