PORTFOLIO REVIEW

An important occasion for professional and amateur photographers to know influential personalities of photography, in order to receive advices and suggestions. A chance to promote your own work and to strengthen your career.

 

The best portfolio will be rewarded with a publication on Il Fotografo.

Maria Livia Brunelli, after a degree in Modern Literature, a Specialization Diploma in Art History and a master’s degree in “Management for curators in contemporary museums”, opened the MLB Maria Livia Brunelli Gallery, a highly evocative space within a Renaissance palace whose objectives include the promotion of artists who use photography by creating series starting from precise conceptual contents, with a specific attention to research-based female photography.

Roberta Lancia
Photo Editor and professional journalist at Donna Moderna magazine. After earning a degree in architecture from Politecnico di Milano and studying at CFP Bauer, she pursued a career in photography. She first worked at the Olycom photojournalism agency before joining the editorial team of Donna Moderna as a photo editor.
Together with her team, she oversees and develops all visual content for the magazine, collaborating with top Italian and international professionals. She also writes about photographers and photography.In her free time, she manages communications for the volunteer organization CISV Italia.

Journalist and photographic critic for Corriere della Sera and the weekly insert ViviMilano, he is staff editor of the magazine Il Fotografo (Sprea editore) and he is professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milan), where he teaches on the Master of Photography. Co-author of Dizionario mondiale della fotografia (Rizzoli/Contrasto), since 2005 he is a contract professor at Milan’s IULM University, where he lectures in “Sociology of consumerism” and “Advertising strategies”. He is an associate researcher at the Civic Aquarium of Milan.
In recent years he has curated several exhibitions including “A Poem” by Silva Lelli e Roberto Masotti, “Beyond the Portrait” by Greg Gorman, “Humanscape” by Giuseppe Mastromatteo, “Le Temps Retrouvé” by Alain Laboile, “Polaroids and More” by Gian Paolo Barbieri and “Le forme rivelate” by Niccolò Biddau at the 29 Arts in Progress Gallery in Milan. On the occasion of Photo London (Somerset House, may 2019), he curated the exhibition proposal by the 29 Arts in Progress Gallery. The last exhibition curated was “On Seduction” (23 september 2020 – 31 march 2021 – 29 Arts in Progress Gallery) with works by Giuseppe Mastromatteo, Tony Meneguzzo and Rankin.

Curator, Laura Serani, was director of the Deauville Festival, Planches Contact, in France from 2019 to 2024, previously she was art director of the Rencontres de Bamako, in Mali, art delegate of Mois de la Photo in Paris; in Italy, curator for Fotografia Europea (2007 to 2015) and director of SiFest (2007 and 2008). In 2016, she launched Omnibus Circus, a travelling pop-up gallery and open stage. From 1985 to 2006, Laura Serani created and directed the Fnac Collection and the Fnac photo gallery network in Europe, Brazil and Taiwan.
Author, Laura Serani taught at the ENS Louis Lumière and teaches in Oeildeep workshops. She is a member of various juries and a nominator for different awards.

Riccardo Costantini was born in Milan in 1965. He earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Milan. In 1999, he worked at the Department of Culture for the Province of Milan, and the following year, he began working full-time at his family’s art gallery, Il Torchio – Costantini Arte Contemporanea, where he remained until 2010. From 2007 to 2011, he directed and coordinated Photofestival Milano alongside Roberto Mutti and Giovanni Pelloso. In 2011, he moved to Turin, where, two years later, he opened his own contemporary art gallery, Riccardo Costantini Contemporary, showcasing works across various expressive media, with a particular focus on fine art photography.

After training as a photography historian, Cécile Nédélec worked for various cultural institutions and galleries developing exhibitions and publications (Société Française de Photographie, Paris and Stephen Bulger Gallery, Toronto). As exhibition and studio manager, she has led multidisciplinary projects and installations of varying scope, accompanying artists such as Noémie Goudal. She joined the Rencontres d’Arles’ production team in 2017 and is now head of exhibitions, to implement the programming of this emblematic Festival in the field of images in the broadest sense.

Femke Rotteveel (1971)
Since 2017, Femke has been the director of FOTODOK, an institution in Utrecht (NL) that curates photography exhibitions around social themes, organizes in-depth programs, and guides artists in their development. FOTODOK is actively involved in (inter)national talent programs such as Lighthouse, Talent Embassy, and FUTURES, with the mission of integrating the educational program Learning to See into the educational process of all children. She studied socio-economic history at the University of Amsterdam and Exeter University.
After working for eight years as Head of World Press Photo's Exhibition Department, she became Head of Allocations at the Dutch Charity Lotteries, where she was responsible for distributing the proceeds of the Postcode Lottery and Friends Lottery.
Since 2020, Femke has chaired the HKU Awards jury and has been involved as a mentor in various startup programs and organizations, including KLABU, the National Violin Competition, One Acre Fund, and the Max Foundation.

Carlo Sala (Treviso, 1984), art critic, art curator and professor at Laba, Academy of Fine Arts in Brescia. Curator of Fondazione Francesco Fabbri, he has directed Photo Open Up festival. He has curated, among others, exhibitions for La Biennale di Venezia, MUFOCO and MART museum. His critical texts and essays have appeared in different publications by Allemandi, Marsilio, Mimesis, Bruno, Mondadori and Skira; in 2021 he published Stati di tensione. Conversazioni su immagine, società e politica (Silvana).
He lives and works in Venice.

 It’s better to take printed portfolios, but you can also use digital media (electricity available)

 

  Each participant can register for one or more review of his choice according to availability. In any case, it will not be possible to purchase more than one reading with the same reviewer.

 

If unable to attend, the fee will not be refunded, however, it will be possible to replace the participant.

 

  Online registration will be possible until Wednesday 23 April.  Any available slots can be purchased directly at the Panizzi Library on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April.

AWARD

 

he jury, composed of all the reviewers, will select the best portfolio, which will be rewarded with publication on the website of Il Fotografo as well as publication on the website of Fotografia Europea.

 

 

 

Those wishing to take part in the selection must give to the secretariat their photographic project in a digital version (with a USB key/hard disk for PC).
