Books exhibition on Emilia-Romagna’s environments, contexts and realities

MAST in Bologna will host the exhibitions curated by Urs Stahel dedicated to work and landscape in Emilia-Romagna, featuring over 200 images and about thirty photographic books on the region’s environments, contexts and realities. Works by Lewis Baltz, Olivo Barbieri, Gabriele Basilico, Tim Davis, Simone Donati, Paola De Pietri, John Gossage, William Guerrieri, Guido Guidi, Walter Niedermayr, Enrico Pasquali, Bas Princen, Franco Vaccari, Carlo Valsecchi, Marco Zanta, and Officine Minganti, together with scenes from the film Il deserto rosso (The Red Desert) directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, document how the region’s economy and landscape have evolved over recent decades. The exhibitions weave a narrative fabric both about how old structures of production are disappearing and new, cutting-edge technological processes and industries are emerging, and about the way traditional landscapes, ancient regions are confronted with new, accelerated high-tech and commercialised service zones in the ceramics and machine industries as well as in food production.

The topics of the exhibitions are enhanced by the documentary Le radici dei sogni – L’Emilia-Romagna tra cinema e paesaggio (The roots of dreams – Emilia-Romagna between cinema and landscape) by Francesca Zerbetto and Dario Zanasi.
