INGAR KRAUSS - IN PERSONA (IN PERSON)

Ingar Krauss was born in 1965 in East Berlin, GDR, where Ingar now lives and works.

Ingar Krauss' study focuses on the reflection of the human condition, in particular, conceived in the portraits of children and adolescents. Infancy is a recurrent theme in the work of the German photographer, especially when permission was given to take photographs in a number of juvenile institutions in Russia between 2002 and 2003, such as orphanages and prisons.

The author's investigation for the town of Reggio, entitled In Persona (In person), focuses on persons that reside and live in Reggio Emilia, by investigating the many-sided and different social environments. In this way, the author gives back a kind of catalogue of glances and faces.

This is how the artist talks about the work:

"Usually, I let myself be guided by intuition when I prepare portraits. I select persons who impress me, who I find ‘unique' in some way. They are normal persons, everyday persons, their singular and unique aspect is in being themselves. My portraits investigate the biography of these persons, the circumstances and the mystery of their existence. Photography is at one and the same time a document and a vision. I try to establish a secret understanding with the person in front of me in the portrait's unique moment, without any form of language, with the intention of creating an authentic moment involving strong intensity and concentration. This is the approach I adopted in the Reggio Emilia project".
