fusion-text-2\"><p>Le ambientazioni notturne e i soggetti richiamano inevitabilmente alla memoria le immagini di molti film americani degli anni Quaranta e Cinquanta, in particolare il filone poliziesco di quel periodo, ma quella che vediamo alla galleria Photology di Milano \u00e8 invece autentica vita vissuta: sono le foto di Weegee, al secolo Arthur Fellig, un mito della fotografia americana d\u2019azione e di strada.<br \/>\nArrivato a New York ancora bambino con la famiglia d\u2019origine ebraica, emigrata dall\u2019Austria in cerca di miglior fortuna, Usher (registrato poi all\u2019ufficio immigrazione americano come Arthur) scopre ben presto le durezze di quella realt\u00e0 urbana, che diverr\u00e0 protagonista assoluta delle sue fotografie.<br \/>\nGli anni di miseria vissuti insieme ai suoi nel quartiere di Lower East Side, l\u2019abbandono precoce degli studi per aiutare la famiglia a sbarcare il lunario, l\u2019arrabattarsi fra mille lavori diversi, lo portano quasi naturalmente ad avvicinarsi alla fotografia attraverso il mondo del crimine; \u201cIl crimine era la mia ostrica perlifera\u201d, ebbe a dire in seguito.<br \/>\nDiventa un \u201cpersonaggio\u201d: gli occhi scuri in perpetuo movimento, i capelli arruffati e troppo lunghi, gli abiti stazzonati con le tasche sformate da pellicole ed obiettivi, la macchina fotografica sempre in mano e un mozzicone di sigaro in bocca.<br \/>\nE\u2019 fotografo freelance, dopo anni di collaborazione all\u2019United Press International Photos nelle vesti di stampatore, e sceglie come postazione strategica il quartier generale della Polizia di Manhattan (pi\u00f9 tardi otterr\u00e0 addirittura il permesso di installare sulla sua auto una radio della polizia) per accorrere sempre fra i primi sul luogo di ogni delitto. Inizia ad avvicinarsi alla fotografia all\u2019et\u00e0 di quattordici anni, tre anni dopo il suo arrivo, assieme alla famiglia, negli Stati Uniti, dove il suo nome viene cambiato nell\u2019americano Arthur. Autodidatta, si dedica a diversi lavori legati alla fotografia prima di trovare un impiego regolare presso uno studio fotografico di Manhattan nel 1918. Questo gli permette di entrare in contatto con diversi giornali, fino a quando, nel 1935,\u00a0 diventa fotografo freelance. In particolare, incentra il suo lavoro attorno al quartier generale della polizia, e nel 1938 ottiene il permesso di installare il sistema radio della polizia nella sua autovettura. Grazie a questo espediente, ha la possibilit\u00e0 di arrivare sui luoghi del crimine per primo (a volte anche prima della polizia), dando vita ad una ricca serie di <em>scoop<\/em> fotografici: le sue fotografie vengono pubblicate, tra gli altri, nell\u2019<em>Herald-Tribune<\/em>, nel <em>Daily News<\/em>, nel <em>Post<\/em>, nel <em>Sun<\/em>, e nel <em>PM Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Nel corso degli anni \u201840 le fotografie di Weegee appaiono nei maggiori quotidiani e ottengono un grande successo. La New York Photo League gli dedica una mostra nel 1941 e lo stesso Museum of Modern Art inizia a collezionare le sue opere e le espone a partire dal 1943.<\/p>\n<p>Weegee pubblica le sue fotografie in diversi libri, tra cui <em>Naked City<\/em> (1945), <em>Weegee&#8217;s People<\/em> (1946) e <em>Naked Hollywood<\/em> (1953).<\/p>\n<p>Dopo essersi trasferito a Hollywood nel 1947, dedica gran parte delle sue energie nella realizzazione di filmati in 16 mm e fotografie delle serie \u201cDistorsioni\u201d, un progetto dedicato a ritratti sperimentali di celebrit\u00e0 e personaggi politici.<\/p>\n<p>Tornato a NY nel 1952, si dedica a tenere conferenze e scrivere sulla fotografia fino alla morte, il 27 dicembre 1968.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div
