Andrea e Magda Birth of a Utopia Dec 2015, Rawabi, Palestine. The family just moved in Rawabi. They are amongst the very first inhabitants who took the risk to buy a house in Rawabi. At this stage, no more than 10 families are living in the neighbourhood. They had to wait for almost two years to move in, as the project was delayed due to the restrictions of permits given by Israel. \u00a9 Andrea e Magda<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Birth of a utopia<\/h2>\n<\/div>

Rawabi \u00e8 la prima citt\u00e0 in Cisgiordania fondata dai e per i Palestinesi. Si trova a nove chilometri da Ramallah e venti da Gerusalemme. Nata da un\u2019idea dell\u2019imprenditore Palestinese Bashar al Masri la citt\u00e0 \u00e8 frutto di un progetto immobiliare privato. Una volta finita dovrebbe ospitare tra 25.000 e 40.000 persone. Costruita su di una collina, la struttura della citt\u00e0 \u00e8 formata da cerchi concentrici che si sviluppano attorno ad un centro commerciale, e ricorda l\u2019 architettura delle colonie Israeliane. Mentre il modello urbano si distacca dallo stile di vita tradizionale Palestinese, il progetto ha sollevato grandi controversie in Cisgiordania.<\/p>\n

Quando abbiamo iniziato a seguire il progetto nel 2009, Rawabi non era molto di pi\u00f9 che un film d\u2019animazione 3D che simulava la vita della futura citt\u00e0 con rendering colorati raffiguranti Palestinesi felici lungo delle strade immaginarie. Come nell\u2019utopia delle citt\u00e0 ideali del rinascimento, che aspiravano ad una perfezione umana ed architetturale, il modello urbano di Rawabi sembra abbracciare le qualit\u00e0 richieste al buon cittadino quale ci si aspetta per il futuro stato Palestinese. Col passare del tempo pero\u2019, il progetto di questa \u201ccitt\u00e0 ideale\u201d ha iniziato a confrontarsi con la realt\u00e0 dell\u2019occupazione Israeliana: La costruzione di Rawabi \u00e8 stata ritardata di alcuni anni, e molti compratori potenziali, si sono ritirati dall\u2019investire in una nuova casa.<\/p>\n

Al momento Rawabi sembra pi\u00f9 una citt\u00e0 fantasma che il paradiso nella terra promessa.<\/p>\n

Birth of a utopia \u00e8 un progetto in corso. La prima parte di questo progetto sar\u00e0 completata a settembre 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Andrea and Magda are a duo of photographers from France and Italy. They live and work mostly in the Middle East since 2008. They interrogate the models shaping contemporary societies in the Midle East in a context of globalization, exploring the economic, cultural and architectural aspects. Their work has been shown in different photography events and museums such as La Maison Europ\u00e9enne de la Photo or Fotomuseo Bogot\u00e0 and was published in magazines internationally (Time, 6 mois, Newsweek Japan, Courrier International, Sunday Times magazine, Internazionale, Lib\u00e9ration\u2026). They recently received the support of CNAP (Centre National des Arts Plastiques) and Fondation Les Treilles for their last project \u201cArabian Tales\u201d, and were nominated for the Prix Pictet 2016.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
