Tale<\/strong>\u00a0e\u00a0<strong>In Search for Memory<\/strong>\u00a0sono indicativi della preoccupazione centrale dell\u2019artista nei confronti della costruzione stessa della memoria. Questo lavoro recente esprime un interesse pi\u00f9 profondo e filosofico nella materialit\u00e0 della fotografia come strumento nella (ri)costruzione della memoria collettiva.\u00a0<strong>Lebohang Kganye<\/strong>\u00a0ha sviluppato un linguaggio visivo che complica una narrazione singolare mentre esplora\u00a0<strong>temi pi\u00f9 ampi di appartenenza, nostalgia, lignaggio, ricordo e autofiction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Perseguendo il mezzo in\u00a0<strong>conversazione con altre discipline come il teatro e la letteratura<\/strong>, il lavoro di Kganye \u00e8 attualmente interessato alla narrazione stratificata e temporale. Utilizza la fotografia come mezzo malleabile nella sua pratica collaborativa trovando connessioni tra il potere d\u2019archivio delle tradizioni orali e l\u2019uso del teatro per invitare nuovi immaginari. Entrambi i corpi di lavoro interrogano\u00a0<strong>il bisogno umano di conservare e ricordare certe narrazioni su noi stessi e sulle comunit\u00e0 da cui proveniamo<\/strong>\u00a0e in cui situiamo le nostre identit\u00e0 per esplorare le potenziali contraddizioni e finzioni in esse contenute. L\u2019intento \u00e8 quello di riguardare a certe narrazioni storiche, alle storie che raccontiamo a noi stessi \u2013 sia soggettivamente che collettivamente.<\/p>\n<p>Nella serie\u00a0<strong>Tell Tale<\/strong>, Kganye usa le opere del famoso drammaturgo e autore Athol Fugard come fonte centrale, e cio\u00e8: The Road to Mecca (1984) e The Train Driver (2010). Fugard \u00e8 meglio conosciuto per il suo contributo al teatro di protesta sudafricano;\u00a0 scrive e dirige le sue opere con un cast multirazziale e rifiuta apertamente le leggi sulla segregazione nei teatri nazionali. Questo ha portato la maggior parte delle sue opere ad essere vietate dal governo dell\u2019Apartheid.\u00a0<strong>Tell Tale<\/strong>\u00a0\u00e8 stato concepito creativamente durante una residenza nella piccola citt\u00e0 di Nieu Bethesda nel Karoo, Eastern Cape. Si tratta di storie messe in scena che gli abitanti della piccola citt\u00e0 desertica hanno narrato all\u2019artista durante la sua residenza \u2013 permettendole di accedere a un archivio vivente.<\/p>\n<p>La serie\u00a0<strong>In Search for Memory<\/strong>\u00a0fa anche uso della letteratura come materiale di riferimento centrale. Kganye risponde a una novella di fantascienza intitolata TA O\u2019REVA dello scrittore malawiano Muthi Nhlema. Lo scrittore presenta una storia alternativa di un futuro Sudafrica post-apocalittico (che sfata la nozione di un risultato post-apartheid unificato e riconciliato \u2013 comunemente etichettato come la narrazione della \u201cNazione Arcobaleno\u201d). Kganye ha ricevuto la sua introduzione alla fotografia al Market Photo Workshop, a Johannesburg, nel 2009 e ha completato il programma di fotografia avanzata nel 2011. Ha ottenuto un Diploma in Belle Arti presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Johannesburg nel 2014 e attualmente sta facendo il suo Master in Belle Arti presso la Witwatersrand University.
