Mi d\u00e0 sia un punto di connessione che di separazione.\u201d Susan Meiselas<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Susan Meiselas<\/strong>\u00a0(1948 Baltimora, USA), sin dal 1976 membro di\u00a0<strong>Magnum Photos<\/strong>, si \u00e8 fatta conoscere per il suo lavoro nelle\u00a0<strong>aree di conflitto dell\u2019America Centrale<\/strong>\u00a0(1978-1983) e in particolare per i suoi potenti scatti della\u00a0<strong>rivoluzione nicaraguense<\/strong>. Nelle sue opere coinvolge i soggetti in un\u2019incessante esplorazione e sviluppo di narrazioni, lavorando spesso su lunghi periodi e su un ampio ventaglio di paesi e soggetti: dalla guerra alle questioni relative ai diritti umani, dall\u2019identit\u00e0 culturale all\u2019industria del sesso.<\/p>\n<p>La mostra, intitolata\u00a0<strong><em>Mediations<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0dalla sua opera omonima pubblicata da Damiani nel 2018, \u00e8 la retrospettiva pi\u00f9 completa mai presentata in Italia e raccoglie una selezione di opere che vanno dagli anni Settanta a oggi.<\/p>\n<p><em>Mediations<\/em>\u00a0(1978-1982) si basa sulla prima esperienza di Meiselas durante l\u2019insurrezione popolare in Nicaragua. Il processo di selezione delle immagini per la pubblicazione Nicaragua: June 1978 \u2013 July 1979 e l\u2019uso delle stesse fotografie fatto dai mass media l\u2019hanno portata a interrogarsi sul modo in cui vengono usate le immagini in contesti diversi. Verso la fine degli anni Novanta, Meiselas ha iniziato a utilizzare il materiale d\u2019archivio che ha raccolto, pubblicato ed esposto come parte di installazioni multimediali, dando cos\u00ec voce a individui e comunit\u00e0 sottoposti a violenza e oppressione.<\/p>\n<p>Meiselas spesso adotta approcci diversi per ampliare la sua opera in varie forme: reportage fotografici, installazioni, libri o film. Il suo primo importante reportage fotografico racconta la vita delle spogliarelliste alle fiere di paese del New England, che ha fotografato per tre estati consecutive mentre insegnava fotografia nelle scuole pubbliche di New York. Carnival Strippers \u00e8 stato originariamente pubblicato nel 1976, e nel giugno 2000 una selezione di questi scatti \u00e8 stata installata al Whitney Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p>Meiselas \u00e8 entrata a far parte di Magnum Photos nel 1976 e da allora lavora come fotografa freelance. \u00c8 nota soprattutto per i suoi reportage dell\u2019insurrezione in Nicaragua e la sua ampia documentazione sui temi dei diritti umani in America Latina.<\/p>\n<p>Nel 1997 porta a termine come curatrice un progetto durato sei anni incentrato su una storia fotografica di cento anni del Kurdistan, integrando il proprio lavoro nel libro<em>\u00a0Kurdistan: In the Shadow of History<\/em>\u00a0(1997) insieme al sito web pionieristico<em>\u00a0akaKURDISTAN<\/em>\u00a0(1998): un archivio online di memoria collettiva e scambio culturale.<\/p>\n<p>La sua monografia del 2001\u00a0<em>Pandora\u2019s Box<\/em>\u00a0(2001), che esplora un club sado-maso di New York, \u00e8 stata esposta sia in patria che all\u2019estero. Il libro e la mostra del 2003 Encounters with the Dani documentano una storia lunga sessant\u2019anni di scoperte da parte di visitatori e delle loro interazioni con i Dani, un popolo indigeno degli altopiani di Papua in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Mostre personali di Meiselas si sono tenute a Parigi, Madrid, Amsterdam, Londra, Los Angeles, Chicago e New York, e le sue opere sono presenti in collezioni di tutto il mondo.
